Details emerging suggest that the various security agencies in the country wrote the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, that they are not available to provide needed support during the elections planned for February 14.
Hence Jega is left with no option but to announce a postponement of the general elections.
According to knowledgeable source security forces said they are due to commence a major offensive against Boko Haram on February 14, the date INEC had planned for the presidential and other federal elections.
This decision, by the security forces, successfully renders INEC’s hitherto insistence to go ahead with the elections a risky venture.
To even collect ballot papers from their storage in the Central bank for the elections will still require security escort, which apparently is now unavailable in the light of the move by the security forces.
