Tems, a Nigerian musician, has looked back on her time in a Ugandan jail in 2020 and characterized it as a “blessing in disguise.”
It’s important to remember that Tems and Omah Lay were apprehended and accused of breaching COVID-19 regulations by the Ugandan authorities.
After performing separately at a concert at Speke Resort in Kampala on December 12, 2020, both artists were detained in prison following the widespread coverage of their arrest.
However, they were released a few days later with the help of the Nigerian government.
In an interview with ES Magazine, the singer of “Damage” expressed that she felt privileged to have been in prison as it served as a humbling experience.
