A video circulating online shows a group of Black South Africans addressing immigrant business owners of other races, urging them not to employ Black workers from other African countries in their businesses.
According to those speaking at the gathering, the only Black employees that should be hired by such businesses in South Africa should be South African citizens.
In the clip, a South African man is heard telling Arab and Asian shop owners “to hire South Africans because of these reasons.”
Reacting during the meeting, a woman asked, “So, what you’re basically saying is, if two shops don’t comply, we all suffer?”
“Yes,” the Black South African speaker replied.
The video was shared with the caption: “South Africans summoned Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other non-African shop owners in South Africa to board meetings to force them to dismiss any other African nationals they employed, because they do not want other Africans working for them.”
The footage surfaced amid ongoing tensions involving some South Africans and Black immigrants from other African countries, with reports of harassment and demands for foreigners to leave the country.
There have also been claims online alleging that some non-citizen Black Africans were denied medical treatment at hospitals.
The same reports noted that hostility appeared mainly directed at Black African immigrants, while other immigrant communities were not similarly targeted.
