The entertainment industry is mourning the tragic loss of veteran character actor James Handy, who was fatally stabbed in Tarzana, California. The 81-year-old actor, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and the 1995 classic Jumanji, was allegedly killed by his girlfriend’s son.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers rushed to a residence in the 19200 block of Erwin Street after receiving a highly disturbing emergency call. The caller reportedly made a chilling declaration, stating, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Handy lying unconscious in the front yard of the home. He had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest. Although paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, the veteran actor was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Suspect Apprehended by LAPD
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, was arrested shortly after the incident. Police reports indicate that Gledhill flagged down officers near the scene and confessed to being the individual they were seeking. Gledhill, who is the son of Handy’s girlfriend, had been residing at the home with his mother at the time of the attack.
Gledhill has been booked on murder charges, with his bail currently set at $2,000,000. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the violent assault, and the investigation remains ongoing.
