Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as “Yemi My Lover,” has expressed his disappointment over not receiving any form of appreciation or compensation from music star Olamide, who referenced his name in one of his songs.
In a recent interview, Ayebo shared how thrilled he was when he first heard Olamide mention “Yemi My Lover” in a track. However, despite the excitement, the actor revealed that he never received any acknowledgment or reward from the singer.
He recalled a conversation with Fuji icon Pasuma, where he asked if Olamide had reached out or shown any gesture of appreciation. Upon learning the answer was no, Pasuma reportedly gave Ayebo Olamide’s contact details to help connect them.
Ayebo said he attempted to reach out for over six months — calling and texting — but got no response from the YBNL boss. Eventually, he gave up on pursuing the matter.
In his words:
“I was so happy when Olamide used my name ‘Yemi My Lover’ in his song, but I was never compensated. Pasuma gave me his number, but after calling and texting for six months without a reply, I decided to let it go.”
Online reactions were mixed:
- @AbdulmaleekIx joked: “Should Rihanna chase down everyone who uses her name in songs? You’re a public figure, come on 😂”
- @dcruisedude added: “This is exactly the kind of media move Davido’s camp would pull when someone starts to outshine them.”
- @gre3t1 commented: “He wants compensation just for name-dropping? What’s wrong with these old heads?”
