Popular and often controversial social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has fired back at an alleged petition submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) targeting him and his prominent lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.

The petition, dated June 11, 2026, and compiled by the law firm Blessing Agbomhere & Partners, was made public by VeryDarkMan via his Instagram page. The document calls on the anti-graft agency to initiate a comprehensive forensic investigation into the financial profiles of both the activist and his legal counsel.

Details of the EFCC Petition

According to the petition, VeryDarkMan’s frequent public advocacy, mass mobilisations, and charity campaigns raise questions regarding the transparency of his funding sources. The petitioners argue that receiving undisclosed financial backing from local or foreign entities poses potential risks to Nigeria’s national security, public order, and democratic stability.

To mitigate these alleged risks, the law firm urged the EFCC to audit the bank accounts, assets, and corporate links of both individuals to rule out money laundering, tax evasion, or illicit financial flows. However, the petition notes that the primary goal is to foster public accountability rather than immediately establish criminal liability.

Reacting to the development, the self-styled ‘Ratel President’ vehemently denied any wrongdoing, describing the petition as a coordinated attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to muzzle his voice.

VDM claimed that the petition’s author, Blessing Agbomhere, is a known APC lawyer and politician who hails from Etsako, the same local government area as himself in Edo State. According to the activist, the ruling party is becoming increasingly uncomfortable with his ability to mobilize Nigerians to demand transparency and good governance.

“They are unsettled by the sheer number of Nigerians coming out to protest and demand real change,” VeryDarkMan asserted, maintaining that his advocacy remains entirely grassroots-funded and transparent.
