In a bold and highly dramatic move, controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has taken his advocacy straight to the gates of the Nigerian military. Freshly returned to the country after an international trip, the outspoken critic and a crowd of passionate supporters marched to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in Abuja to demand immediate action against the country’s worsening security crisis.

The demonstration, which quickly went viral across various social media platforms, highlighted the deep frustration of ordinary citizens over the persistent threat of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism plaguing Nigeria.

“Take Your Aircraft to the Bush” – Verydarkman Challenges NAF

Sitting on the ground outside the military facility alongside his supporters, Verydarkman did not mince words as he addressed the camera and bystanders. He questioned the priorities of the security agencies, pointing out that substantial budgets are allocated to defense annually, yet citizens continue to fall victim to criminal elements on a daily basis.

“Nigerian Air Force, if you have bullets to shoot us, you should also have bullets to shoot kidnappers and bandits,” Verydarkman declared passionately in the viral footage. “Take your aircraft to the bush and shoot them.”

His direct challenge highlights a growing public sentiment that the nation’s security forces must deploy their heavy aerial assets and intelligence resources more aggressively into the forests and strongholds where these armed groups operate.

Mixed Reactions Trail the Abuja Military Base Confrontation

The activist’s unexpected confrontation with the military has sparked intense debate online, with Nigerians expressing sharply contrasting views. Many have lauded his courage, praising him for going beyond online commentary to demand physical accountability from the authorities.

  • Supporters: Many view him as a fearless voice for the masses. Supporters argue that his action is the kind of active citizenship needed to push public institutions to perform their duties.
  • Skeptics: On the other hand, some commentators have expressed concern for his safety, warning that directly confronting the military at their base could carry severe consequences. Critics also compared the situation to past activists, suggesting that online solidarity does not always translate to protection when state agencies decide to crack down.

The Growing Cry Over National Insecurity

This dramatic protest comes at a time of heightened anxiety across Nigeria, with many communities facing constant threats from armed gangs. While the military regularly reports successful operations against insurgent groups, the sheer scale of kidnapping for ransom continues to dominate national discourse.

Whether Verydarkman’s daring public stand will prompt a response from the Nigerian Air Force leadership remains to be seen, but it has undoubtedly reignited a crucial national conversation on accountability and the effectiveness of the country’s security architecture.
