Controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has once again sparked intense conversations across Nigerian online communities. During a recent public protest addressing the rising wave of insecurity and the troubling cases of abducted victims in Oyo State, the vocal commentator targeted the government’s approach to national safety.

In a video circulating widely on social media platforms, Verydarkman did not hold back. He openly questioned the commitment of political leaders to ending the kidnapping epidemic, suggesting that deeper forces are at play in the nation’s security challenges.

The Gumi Connection: Activist Points to Alleged Complicity

Central to Verydarkman’s argument was a reference to controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi. The activist reminded his audience of past statements made by Gumi, who had publicly asserted that security agencies and government officials are aware of the locations and identities of bandit groups operating within Nigeria’s forests.

Extrapolating from those remarks, Verydarkman boldly claimed that a lack of decisive action from the authorities points to a deeper issue of complicity. He went as far as threatening to take matters into his own hands by organizing a movement to enter the forests of Oyo State to rescue kidnap victims directly if the government fails to act.

Lessons From the Past: Why the Chibok Girls Protest Failed to Stop Boko Haram

Reflecting on Nigeria’s historical struggle with terrorism, the activist drew parallels to the famous 2014 #BringBackOurGirls campaign, which followed the mass abduction of schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State. He argued that the major error citizens made at the time was allowing the momentum of the protests to fade away without securing long-term structural changes.

According to Verydarkman, the brief surge of public outrage followed by eventual silence gave criminal elements, including Boko Haram, the audacity to sustain their terror campaigns across the country. He urged Nigerians to maintain consistent pressure on the leadership, emphasizing that periodic outrage is not enough to secure the nation.

Public Reactions and Call for Accountability

Verydarkman’s fiery speech has triggered a wave of mixed reactions online. While some netizens praised him for his bravery in speaking truth to power and demanding transparency, others cautioned against his confrontational approach, warning that Entering the forests without tactical security backing could lead to catastrophic consequences.

As the conversation around regional security continues to grow, many Nigerians agree on one thing: there is an urgent need for more proactive, transparent, and definitive measures from law enforcement agencies to curb the menace of kidnapping and banditry nationwide.
