The brother of detained activist and social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) has spoken out following his arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), sparking public concern.
VDM was reportedly picked up at a GTBank branch after accompanying his mother to lodge a complaint over multiple unexplained debits from her bank account. His sudden detention has triggered widespread online reactions.
In an Instagram video update, VDM’s brother revealed that the activist and a friend who was with him during the arrest sustained serious injuries and have allegedly been denied medical attention.
“We’ve followed the right procedures, but they still won’t release VDM or the other person, nor let them get medical help. From what we’ve heard, they were badly hurt,” he stated.
He also raised questions about the EFCC’s motive, saying:
“I don’t know what EFCC’s agenda against VDM is, but GTBank and EFCC should understand this won’t end well.”
As of the time of this report, neither the EFCC nor GTBank has responded publicly to the allegations.
