The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be temporarily closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day — a significant federal holiday in the United States.
In an announcement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the US Mission in Nigeria stated that the closure is in honor of Memorial Day, which is dedicated to remembering American military personnel who died while serving the country.
Observed annually on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is marked by nationwide ceremonies, flag displays, and various tributes in the United States to commemorate fallen soldiers.
Due to the holiday, regular consular services at both locations will be unavailable for the day, with operations set to resume on Tuesday, May 27.
The Mission also advised those needing emergency consular services to visit its website for appropriate contact information.
