A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ifeme Rebecca Yahoma, popularly known as Becky, has publicly addressed and refuted viral claims suggesting she denied having a boyfriend after a widely circulated photo sparked online controversy.

The uproar began after well-known YouTuber and content creator Asherkine visited UNN and treated Rebecca to a lavish outing, which included shopping, a new smartphone, and other luxury gifts. During their interaction, Asherkine asked Rebecca if she was in a relationship, to which she replied that she had never had a boyfriend.

However, shortly after their outing, a photo surfaced online showing Rebecca with a man named Ken, who alleged that he was her boyfriend. This led to widespread backlash, with many accusing her of denying him for fame or material benefit.

In response, Rebecca released a video statement to clear the air, distancing herself from the man and describing the situation as entirely fabricated.

“I’m here to debunk the whole story going around about me denying my boyfriend. First of all, the name ‘Becky Chinaza’ he is using is not my name. I don’t know who this person is,” she stated.

She also addressed a viral WhatsApp conversation used as “evidence,” denying any connection to it:
“The WhatsApp message he’s been sharing across social media is not me — that isn’t even my DP on WhatsApp. Even the replies don’t sound like me. I don’t speak that kind of English.”

Rebecca went on to assert her innocence and reiterated that she has never been in a romantic relationship:
“I am so much innocent of all these accusations. I will keep saying it — I do not have a boyfriend, and I have never, ever had a boyfriend.”

Challenging the man’s claims, she said:
“If he is claiming to be my boyfriend, he should bring more evidence and stop going to my TikTok to screenshot the videos I have already made and photoshopping them.”
“Bring evidence that you and I are actually dating.”

Her statement has triggered mixed responses online—some applauding her for defending herself, while others remain skeptical.

Meanwhile, UNN’s Department of Mass Communication has also issued a statement supporting Rebecca and denouncing the viral photo as false and defamatory.
