Presidential aspirant and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has countered President Muhammadu Buhari’s utterance that many Nigerian youths just want to sit down and do nothing, banking on the notion that Nigeria is an oil-rich nation.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, the president said a lot of Nigerian youths have not been to school, are very lazy and want everything free.

“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free.” Buhari said.

However Atiku on his Twitter page on Thursday stated that he would never refer to Nigerian youths as ‘People who do nothing’ stating that they are hardworking people who should be commended.

‘I will never refer to Nigeria’s youth as people who sit and do nothing. They are hardworking. I should know, I have thousands of youths working for me all over the country who have been the backbone to our success’
