The Management of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) on Monday, declared a forced mid-semester break.
Reports gathered that the immediate closure was as a result of the tension generated by recent incidents of police shootings and students’ protests over Saturday’s incident in which two of the students, Abiola kazeem and Ibrahim were shot over alleged internet fraud on the football field.
The institution was again thrown into mourning and protest on Monday when a female student of the institution simply identified as Feyisara, died after a brief illness.
The deceased who was said to be a 100 level students of the Anatomy Department reportedly died because the Hospital did not attend to her on time.
The Acting Registrar of the institution, Mr Shittu Gafar, who announced the holiday said, “We thank God for taking full control of the ugly incident of police brutality against our students. The students are responding speedily. We also note the decisive action taken by the security agencies and the assurances to forestall future occurrence.
“To further calm frayed nerves, management and the leadership of our students have agreed that the university should proceed on a one-week mid-semester break with effect from Monday, 23, to Friday, January 27, 2017.
