Boxing’s reigning heaveyweight champion Floyd Mayweather has announced his retirement as a pugilist.
He disclosed this in Las Vegas on Saturday night moments after defeating Andre Berto to record his 49th career victory
The defeat was also a record-equalling win as he now matches former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano running streak of 49 straight wins.
Mayweather, 38, who easily outboxed his younger opponent over the 12 rounds to retain his WBC and WBA welterweight titles with a unanimous decision noted while confirming his retirement he has “nothing left to prove in boxing.”
