Residents of Kwaku community in Kuje Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were thrown into mourning after a man, simply identified as Sunday, allegedly beat a 19-year-old girl, Cecilia David, to death at the village.

A witness said the incident happened around 8:45 a.m. when the man, who was said to be the deceased’s uncle, went to her house to beat her for refusing to wash his clothes.

The witness added that when the man asked the deceased why she refused to wash his clothes as directed, the deceased said she was busy plaiting her hair, adding that the response annoyed the man, who started hitting her with hands and legs.

“In the process, the girl slumped and people started pouring water on her in order to revive her, before she was rushed to the hospital,’’ the witness said.

He said the deceased, who was in Junior Secondary School (JSS) II, was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the community health centre, saying the man was immediately arrested by the police from Kwaku Police Outpost and taken to Kuje divisional headquarters.

Our reporter learnt that the incident created tension in the family as the mother of the deceased was said to have passed out and had to be revived.
City News learnt that the deceased was buried Friday evening at the community.
