DEADLY ice is set to wreak havoc on the roads this morning after temperatures plunged to as low as -9C overnight – with more snow storms and dangerous floods predicted to batter the country.
Brits have been warned to ‘take immediate action’ as the country is plunged into a three-day deep freeze, with Army troops deployed to the streets to reassure the public.
Three lorries jack-knifed in the icy conditions overnight, causing closures on the A23 in Handcross, West Sussex, the M20 in Kent and the A55 eastbound at Northop as authorities desperately urged motorists to drive carefully in the treacherous road conditions.
Elsewhere 16 vehicles were involved in an accident on the A19 in the Easington area of County Durham, and about 50 vehicles were stuck on the A1 Western Bypass due to the bad weather this morning.
There are now 12 severe weather warning across the UK.
Some flights at Manchester Airport have been delayed due to snowy conditions.
