Two patent medicine sellers accused of buying blood from students in Agege area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have been arrested by the police at Elere Station.
The suspects, Olusola Opeyemi, 23 and Adeagbo Olatunji, 35, were accused of collecting blood from students of Oyewole High School, Agege.
Members of the community noticed the unusual visit of some students to a certain shop located on Owoloabi Omotoye street, Orile Agege, during and after school hours which prompted a little investigation.
One of the students nabbed at the shop and simply identified as Emeka, a JSS2 pupil, confessed to donating his blood thrice for the sum of N1, 500 on each occasion with Sola asking them “not to tell anyone about it.”
Some of the students, who were from Oke Odo High School; State Senior High School,Oyewole; State Junior High School, Mulero; Keke High school, Agege, it was further gathered, had donated their blood several times .
Confirming the incident, chairman of the Parent-Teachers’ Association (PTA) State Junior High School, Mr. Adeyemi, said some of the students, who became very sick as a result of the repeated blood donation, had been taken to the hospital while the rest had been released to their parents.
