Donald Trump has stated that Iran has assured it will no longer shut down the Strait of Hormuz, describing the development as a major success for U.S. negotiators during ongoing ceasefire discussions.
The remark came after Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the key maritime route is now fully open to commercial traffic for the duration of the ceasefire.
“Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the world,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Araghchi explained that vessels can now move freely along designated routes coordinated by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation, marking a significant step toward easing tensions and preventing the waterway from being used as a strategic pressure point.
Trump also acknowledged the role of mediators in the talks held in Islamabad, thanking Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir for their contributions, describing them as “fantastic people.”
The announcement quickly influenced global markets, with oil prices sdropping by nearly 10% following the reduced risk of disruptions along the critical shipping route.
