Trump Imposes Access Ban on Major News Outlets
In a significant escalation of his administration’s conflict with the press, United States President Donald Trump has barred CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House. The President defended the decision by accusing the prominent media organizations of spreading propaganda and fabricating stories about his administration.
Announcing the move via his social media platform, TruthSocial, Trump asserted that “fake” media organizations should not be permitted to continuously report fiction and falsehoods concerning the presidency. He also cautioned that additional news outlets could soon face similar restrictions.
Allegations of Federal Funding and Media Bias
During a tense press briefing in the Oval Office, Trump singled out Politico, claiming the outlet had received an “illegal and ridiculous $8 million subscription” from the federal government under former President Joe Biden. According to Trump, this alleged funding was distributed “in order to keep them alive.”
When questioned by reporters regarding his constitutional oath to protect a free press, Trump remained defiant. “You get so tired of reading and seeing fake news… there may be others to join them,” the President stated, hinting at further bans. “Our country has to have honest news.”
Clashes in the Oval Office
Reporters challenged the President during the briefing, asking whether the bans were an attempt to intimidate journalists from doing their jobs. Trump rejected the accusation, replying, “No, no, no. I dislike dishonest press like you. I think you are terrible.”
He argued that the legal system should not protect outlets that publish false stories daily, asserting that “somebody has a right to keep them away if they are going to write false stories all the time.” Despite the aggressive measures, Trump denied that his administration was being repressive. “We don’t repress, but they write fake news,” he insisted.
Broadside Attacks on Fox News and Washington Post
The restrictions coincide with broader criticisms aimed at other major media organizations. Trump dismissed recent polling from Fox News, labeling them the “worst polls in the whole business” and suggesting the network should have replaced its pollsters years ago. Additionally, the President described the Washington Post as “disgusting” as he reiterated his stance against mainstream coverage.
