U.S. President Donald Trump has declared a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, signaling a likely end to the 12-day-long conflict that had raised global alarm over a potential wider war in the Middle East.
Speaking Monday night, Trump confirmed that both nations have consented to a phased ceasefire that will take effect within six hours. According to the deal, Iran will begin the initial ceasefire phase, with Israel following suit 12 hours later—culminating in a total halt to hostilities after 24 hours.
The agreement is expected to end nearly two weeks of escalating violence that had intensified regional tensions and drawn international concern.
Describing the development as a “major diplomatic milestone,” Trump commended both countries for their restraint and willingness to de-escalate.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! Israel and Iran have officially agreed to a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE, set to begin in approximately six hours once both nations conclude their final active missions. A full 12 hours later, the war will be declared OVER,” Trump announced.
He noted that during each ceasefire window, the opposing side is expected to maintain peace and respect the agreement. If adhered to, the truce will formally conclude what he referred to as “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
Trump praised the leaders of Iran and Israel for avoiding what could have escalated into a protracted and devastating conflict.
“This war had the potential to spiral into a years-long catastrophe across the Middle East—but that will not happen,” he stated.
He concluded with a sweeping message of unity and hope:
“God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world!”
The ceasefire announcement came shortly after Trump criticized Iran for launching a missile attack on the U.S. military base in Qatar—the largest American base in the region. According to Trump, Iran fired 14 missiles in retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, but 13 were intercepted and the remaining one caused no significant damage.
