The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta, has created a new program called Threads in response to the recent upheaval that has engulfed Twitter due to a new policy published by Elon Musk on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Threads will compete with Twitter.
According to a statement from the business, the new platform will berth on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
The news comes months after Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, and the CTO of Twitter agreed to a cage match.
The new app will be connected to Instagram and is currently available for pre-order on the App Store.
The new platform was referred to by Meta as a text-based conversion tool.
The company describes the new product as a “text-based conversation app”.
Meta said:
“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what will be trending tomorrow.”
The launch of the new Meta app, which mimics Twitter in some ways, coincides with Elon Musk’s introduction of a number of new features.
On Saturday, Elon Musk limited the amount of tweets that Twitter users may view.
Musk said in a tweet that the measure is intended to address data and system manipulation.
Verified users, according to the billionaire, would have access to 6,000 postings each day, while new and unverified users would only be able to see 600 and 300 tweets, respectively.
Responding to a tweet about the new app, Threads, Musk said: “Thank goodness they’re so sanely run.”
According to reports, Threads has been billed as Instagram’s text-based conversation app and allows users to keep the same username and follow duplicate accounts as they do on the photo-sharing platform.
