A wave of shock and grief has hit Delta State following the arrest of a well-known local content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely recognized as “Odogwu of Asaba.” The 40-year-old internet personality has been detained by the Delta State Police Command in connection with the alleged sexual assault and torture of a 20-year-old nursing student, who tragically took her own life shortly after the incident.
A Deceptive Invitation Ends in Tragedy
According to official police reports, the suspect allegedly used his online influence to lure the victim, Favour Agbro, to Asaba. Ogbonna had promised to mentor the aspiring young woman in the lucrative field of digital content creation. However, the promise of mentorship quickly turned into a nightmare when he reportedly brought her to a hotel room, where she was subjected to severe torment and sexual assault.
Overwhelmed by the trauma of the ordeal, Favour recorded a heartbreaking video detailing her experience before ingesting a lethal dose of insecticide. Despite medical efforts to save her life at a local hospital, she succumbed to the poison and passed away.
Police Confirm Arrest and Launch Investigation
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the suspect’s arrest through a statement shared on social media. Edafe detailed the grim circumstances surrounding the case, confirming that Ogbonna is currently in custody as investigations continue.
“The suspect invited the victim to Asaba under the guise of teaching her content creation, lured her to his hotel room, and allegedly tortured and raped her,” Edafe stated. He added that the victim, unable to bear the emotional agony, documented her ordeal on video before taking her own life.
Viral Reaction and Suspect’s Plea
Following the arrest, a video surfaced online showing Ogbonna in police custody. In the viral footage, the visibly distressed content creator can be heard pleading with the victim’s grieving family, expressing remorse for what transpired.
“This is a very terrible mistake. I’m ready to give everything,” Ogbonna was heard saying in the clip, sparking widespread outrage across social media platforms, with many demanding swift justice for Favour Agbro.
The tragic incident has renewed critical conversations about the safety of young creatives seeking mentorship in the digital space and the urgent need for stringent measures against gender-based violence.
