Popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has publicly distanced herself from the Lagos State All Presidents Congress (APC) campaign council, declaring that she has resolved to stay completely out of politics.

The award-winning actress made the clarification after her name was spotted on a newly released Lagos APC campaign list on Thursday, September 17. She had been assigned to the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate of the campaign council, alongside several of her industry peers.

Toyin Abraham Sets the Record Straight

Reacting swiftly to the publication, Abraham took to her Instagram Story to debunk the reports, emphasizing that she never agreed to be part of the political committee.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” the actress wrote to her followers.

The Lagos APC Entertainment Directorate

Despite her public rejection, Abraham’s name was officially published under the 33-member Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate. The structure of the committee features several notable figures in the Nigerian entertainment landscape, including:

  • Director: Toke Benson-Awoyinka
  • Co-Director: Jide Kosoko
  • Deputy Director: Eniola Badmus

Other prominent industry names included in the directorate’s list are Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere, and Adewale Ayuba.

A Decision Born of Past Backlash

Abraham’s firm stance to avoid political engagements comes in the wake of the severe backlash she faced during the 2023 presidential election. Her active and vocal support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made her a target for intense online trolling, cyberbullying, and personal attacks directed at her family.

Having previously expressed regret over the toll the political season took on her personal life and mental well-being, her latest statement reinforces her commitment to focus solely on her filmmaking career and steer clear of partisan activities.
