President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the passing of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris. The President described the demise of the elder statesman as a painful loss that will be felt by his immediate family, the people of Kogi State, and the entire nation of Nigeria.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris passed away in the United Kingdom on Sunday at the age of 77. Following the announcement of his demise, tributes have poured in from political leaders across the country, with the current Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, declaring a three-day period of mourning to honor his memory.
A Legacy of Public Service and Leadership
In an official statement released on Monday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Kogi State Government, and the political associates of the former governor. The President emphasized that Idris dedicated a significant portion of his life to public service and played a pivotal role in the developmental strides of Kogi State.
According to the President, the tenure of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, remains an important chapter in the political and developmental history of the state. During his nine-year administration, the former governor spearheaded key interventions across critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Tinubu Pays Tribute to the Statesman
“Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was a committed public servant whose years in office formed an important chapter in the political and developmental history of Kogi State,” President Tinubu stated. He further urged the nation to remember and honor the late governor’s vast contributions to national growth during this period of grief.
Offering prayers for the departed soul, President Tinubu said, “I extend my deepest condolences to his family and the people of Kogi State. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.” He also prayed that God would grant the family the fortitude and strength to bear the painful loss.
