President Bola Tinubu has urged the newly appointed service chiefs to confront Nigeria’s lingering security challenges head-on, emphasizing the need for decisive action and tangible results.
Speaking at the decoration ceremony for the service chiefs held on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu tasked the nation’s top military commanders to execute their duties with patriotism, innovation, and courage, stressing that Nigerians expect “results, not excuses.”
Tinubu’s Message to the Service Chiefs
The President congratulated the newly confirmed service chiefs, acknowledging the weight of responsibility placed upon them.
In his words:
“I congratulate you on your appointment and subsequent confirmation by the Senate. As your Commander-in-Chief, I am entrusting you with a tremendous responsibility, one that you must approach with the highest standards of commitment and dedication.”
He noted that the ceremony symbolized a renewed push toward restoring peace and security across the country. Tinubu reminded them that security remains the foundation for all forms of progress, saying there can be no meaningful development without safety and stability.
“The government’s foremost duty is to protect the citizens,” he stated, commending the military’s resilience in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity over the years.
Tinubu praised the armed forces for their “patriotism, diligence, and dedication,” recalling their efforts in reclaiming territories previously seized by terrorists and rescuing numerous abducted citizens.
However, he acknowledged that emerging security threats continue to challenge the country’s stability.
“Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”
Reiterating his expectations, the President charged the service chiefs to operate with renewed vigor and strategic foresight.
“I charge you, as the heads of our nation’s armed forces, to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses.”
He further encouraged them to adopt modern strategies and technological tools to stay ahead of insurgents and criminal groups.
“I charge you also to be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. Let us deploy technology where necessary. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer.”
Tinubu assured the service chiefs of his full support as they embark on this critical national mission.
“I wish you success as you take up the challenge. I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done.”
The President concluded by praying for the safety of Nigeria’s armed forces and reaffirming his commitment to national peace and unity.
“Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May God continue to keep our armed forces safe.”
