Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has stirred public opinion by advising men to consider marrying multiple wives or involving themselves with numerous women. This statement was made during the premiere of his latest film, Anikulapo 2, amidst an ongoing public rivalry with colleague Funke Akindele regarding box office dominance and industry success.

The Rationale

Afolayan drew from his personal history to support his stance, revealing that he is the seventh child in a massive family tree. He admitted that while his late father was involved with many women, he is unsure how many were legally wedded. However, he insisted that this “complex” upbringing was instrumental to his achievements.

Legacy and Unity

The director credited his father’s lifestyle for shaping his worldview and his success, stating that without his father, neither he nor his creative hub, KAP Village, would exist. Addressing the stigma often attached to polygamous households, Afolayan pointed out that contrary to the belief that such families fall apart, several of his siblings are currently working together to uphold their father’s legacy.
