Tension is brewing in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, following the brutal murder of Igbu Terhemen, the ward chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the Fiidi Council Ward.
A Tragic Discovery Near His Residence
Terhemen was found dead and bound in a bushy area close to his home. According to sources close to the family, the deceased had left his residence to watch a local football match in the Kanshio suburb of Makurdi. When he failed to return home, his anxious family members and friends initiated a search party.
The search ended in tragedy when his lifeless body was discovered around 2:00 AM near his residence, close to the NNPC Depot along the Makurdi-Otukpo Road. Investigators and witnesses noted a suspicious needle mark on his body, sparking fears that his attackers may have injected him with a lethal substance before abandoning him.
Outrage and Calls for Justice
The Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has expressed deep shock over the incident. In an official statement, the state publicity secretary, Agile Bem, condemned the heinous act, confirming that Terhemen was bound, injected with a suspected poison, and dumped near his home.
Speaking on the tragedy, the state party chairman, Ohini Ojegbe, described the killing as a ‘broad-daylight evil.’ Ojegbe called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to fish out the perpetrators behind this crime and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.
The party described the late chairman as a dedicated leader whose immense contributions to the growth of the party would be sorely missed, particularly during a period when his leadership and commitment were highly valued.
