Secondary teachers in Bauchi State, yesterday, stormed the Government House to protest over 11 months of unpaid salaries.
Those owed arrears of salaries, according to Vanguard, consisted mainly of those newly recruited by the state government.
The protesters lamented over their plight since their recruitment, saying they could no longer cope. They urged the government to address the situation.
Tijani Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, lamented that since the state government employed them on April 16, 2014, they had not been paid.
“In the spirit of leadership by example, we want Governor Isa Yuguda to intervene and address this situation because we are suffering.
“The situation is even more pathetic for those of us who were posted to remote areas in the state as they have to transport themselves to and from work.
“For 11 months now, all we have been hearing from the ministry of education and the Accountant General is that we should be patient. But we discovered that the situation has continued to deteriorate,” he said.
