Popular Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has voiced strong concerns over the escalating kidnapping crisis in Nigeria. His reaction comes after a disturbing video surfaced online showing a suspected kidnapper boldly flaunting a captive on social media.

In the viral clip, the victim’s face is covered with their hands tied securely behind their back, while the captor appears relaxed, filming the entire scene. The sheer audacity of the footage prompted VDM to release a video address, urging Nigerians to change how they respond to such horrifying content.

Why You Must Stop Sharing Kidnappers’ Videos

According to the Ratel President, the decision by criminals to document and share their illicit activities online is a calculated psychological tactic. He explained that these videos are deliberately designed to instill terror and panic among the public.

By showcasing the suffering of their captives, kidnappers aim to intimidate families, making them feel helpless and forcing them to quickly pay hefty ransoms. VDM passionately appealed to social media users, influencers, and content creators to immediately stop reposting these clips.

“Stop giving them publicity,” VDM warned, arguing that resharing the footage only amplifies the kidnappers’ leverage, expands their reach, and serves as free promotion for their heinous crimes.

Allegations of Security Collusion

Beyond his advice to social media users, Verydarkman also took aim at the security agencies tasked with protecting Nigerian citizens. In a controversial twist, he alleged that corruption within some security departments is actively fueling the country’s security crisis.

The activist claimed that some unscrupulous soldiers and security operatives are secretly involved in criminal syndicates, often blaming their actions on generic “bandits.” He raised critical historical questions, asking who was behind the widespread robberies and kidnappings in the years preceding the emergence of prominent armed groups like Boko Haram.

VDM’s latest commentary highlights a growing frustration among Nigerians regarding national security, pushing for collective responsibility online while calling for deeper reforms and transparency within the country’s security apparatus.
