Controversial rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has revealed that he has been arrested 19 times and detained on five separate occasions.
The artist has had frequent run-ins with law enforcement, including two arrests in October and November 2024 after mocking Burna Boy’s ties with American music executive Sean Combs, also known as Diddy.
In a recent Instagram post, the ‘Bangdadadang’ singer boasted about his numerous arrests in a freestyle rap video, weeks after his release.
“Five lockups, 19 arrests, I got game, but I don’t listen. When you hear this one, it’s Kuje. If you’ve matured, I move on, shame on you,” he rapped.
It’s worth noting that Speed Darlington was held at Kuje Correctional Facility until his release on January 21, 2025, following his bail approval by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Shortly after regaining his freedom, he claimed to have narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while leaving a Lagos nightclub. His statement sparked controversy, prompting his lawyer, Stan Alieke, to publicly announce the termination of their legal representation.
Addressing his lawyer’s decision, Speed Darlington stated that Alieke was free to leave if he no longer wished to support him.
