A 22-year-old man, Bestman Momodu, has  hacked his father to death with a knife after an argument ensued over a missing stick of cigarette at Ubiane Aviele town in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State on August 16.

Speaking yesterday with journalists, Bestman who was paraded alongside 68 other suspects who committed various crimes, ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, illegal possession of firearms, rape, cultism, defilement, unlawful possession of fake products to obtaining money under false pretence and impersonation said he killed his father in error.

Confessing his sins, Best Momodu, said: I stole his cigarette and he found out. So he started shouting at me and quarrelling. So, mistakenly I took a knife and stabbed him. I have not seen the dead body but I heard he died. But the community people arrested me after I killed him.”

Meanwhile whilst parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo said that his command would strive to secure lives and property in the state during the “ember months,” noting that “the ember months are the months criminals want to reap where they did not sow.”

He, therefore, called on the media and members of the society to partner with police to combat crime by giving useful information to the police.

“We must all work together for a peaceful society. It is not for the police alone,” Adebanjo said.

Among items allegedly recovered from the suspects were 17 assorted guns, 48 live cartridges, three cars, one Lifan motor cycle, one battle axe and one cutlass.
