British rap icon Skepta has issued a bold challenge to American rappers, calling for a transatlantic rap battle to determine which country reigns supreme in the ongoing UK vs US hip-hop debate.
The conversation surrounding which region produces better rappers has long been a hot topic, and Skepta believes it’s time to settle it with direct lyrical competition.
“I wanna clash an American rapper anyway, finally get this UK/US rap debate sorted,” he declared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday.
The Grime pioneer didn’t stop there—he proposed several head-to-head matchups, including Ghetts vs Eminem, Chip vs Kendrick Lamar, Dave vs Lil Wayne, Youngs vs Meek Mill, and Blade Brown vs Pusha T. On the female front, he matched Queenie with Meg The Stallion. Other proposed clashes included Central Cee vs Jack Harlow, Lancey vs Travis Scott, and JME vs Tyler, The Creator.
Defending the quality of UK rappers, Skepta added:
“The microphone training you get from being in the grime scene is top level, Oxford Uni level training, we’re not easy, lol.”
