Afrobeats singer Folarin Odunlami, better known as Fola, has shared how a difficult experience almost made him abandon his music career.
The “Alone” hitmaker revealed that on the very day he moved to Lagos in pursuit of his dreams, he was arrested and spent the night in a police station. According to him, the incident left him discouraged and on the verge of giving up.
In a recent interview with Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Fola explained that although relocating in 2018 was tough, his resilience helped him adapt to the fast-paced lifestyle of the city.
“I relocated to Lagos in 2018 to pursue my music career. It was really rough. I wasn’t born here, so adjusting to the living conditions and the hustle was hard. The very first day I came to Lagos, I was arrested and spent the night at the police station. It was a long story, and I almost gave up,” he recounted.
Fola rose to fame after signing with Bella Shmurda’s Dagbani Republik in October 2024. Since then, he has collaborated with Afrobeats heavyweights like Wizkid and Kizz Daniel.
