Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has asked fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”
The nickname originated from Simi’s 2020 hit song Duduke, which she released while pregnant. After she and her husband, Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter in June 2020, many fans affectionately started calling the child by the song’s title.
However, in a recent chat with VJ Adams, Simi clarified that she isn’t fond of the nickname. She explained that “Duduke” is simply an onomatopoeia used to represent the rhythm of a heartbeat in the song—it holds no real meaning.
“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything,” she said. “If it meant something nice, I’d have been okay with it. But it’s just a sound—duduke, duduke—to express how my heart beats for her.”
She added with a laugh, “Stop calling my child Duduke. But I understand it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to make a fuss.”
