A video purportedly filmed on Christmas day shows Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau and other members of the sect safe and sound in an unknown location.

President Muhammdu Buhari on Christmas Eve claimed in a statement that Boko Haram camps in Sambisa Forest have been destroyed and that members of the sect were on the run.

Buhari in the statement said: “I was told by the Chief of Army Staff that the Camp fell at about 1:35pm on Friday, December 23, and that the terrorists are on the run, and no longer have a place to hide,” the president had said.

However, Shekau in the  new video released on Thursday disputed the  claim of the Nigerian government that members of the sect had  routed from its Sambisa stronghold.

“We are safe. We have not been flushed out of anywhere. And tactics and strategies cannot reveal our location except if Allah wills by his decree,” Shekau said.

“You should not be telling lies to the people. If you indeed crushed us, how can you see me like this? How many times have you killed us in your bogus death?

“Our aim is to establish an Islamic Caliphate and we have our own Caliphate, we are not part of Nigeria.”

The new video is 25-minutes in length.
