A new audio posted on social media on Sunday cast doubt on claims by Chad’s president Idris Deby that Boko Haram has chosen another leader after the demise of its leader Abubakar Shekau.
A voice in the new audio claiming to be Shekau called Deby an hypocrite, stressing he remains in control of Boko Haram.
In the 8-minute audio, Shekau also noted that his rumored death is the handiwork of infidels.
“It is indeed all over the global media of infidels that I am dead or that I am sick,” he said.
“It should be understood that this is false. This is indeed a lie. If it were true, my voice wouldn’t have been heard, now that I am speaking.
“I have not disappeared. I am still alive and I will not die until my time appointed by Allah is up.”
Naijalog recall that Ahmad Salkida, a Nigerian journalist known to have access to top commanders of the sect, had dismissed Deby’s claim that a certain Mahamat Daoud was now the new leader of Boko Haram via a tweet posted on his twitter handle.
