Sheik Gumi has stirred reactions online after commenting on data indicating lower HIV prevalence in some Muslim majority regions.
The cleric shared figures on his Facebook page showing that northern states such as Katsina State, Jigawa State, Sokoto State, Bauchi State, and Yobe State recorded lower numbers of HIV cases. In contrast, states like Akwa Ibom State, Benue State, Rivers State, Anambra State, and Enugu State were listed among those with higher figures.”
In response to the data, Gumi suggested that cultural practices and lifestyle choices play a significant role in the spread of diseases.
