Yoruba Nollywood actor Oluwole Cole, widely recognized by his professional name Baraka, has sparked conversations online after sharing details of a past confrontation with actress Mosunmola Filani. Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran actor alleged that Filani exhibited arrogant and disrespectful behavior during the earlier years of her career.
During his appearance on the African A-List podcast, Baraka did not hold back when asked about his experiences working with the actress. He described her as “very rude and overly self-important” and detailed an encounter that almost halted a film production.
The Larry King Hotel Incident
According to Baraka, the friction began during a film shoot around the Larry King Hotel. He was working at the location alongside prominent filmmakers Kunle Afod and the late Murphy Afolabi when they crossed paths with Filani, who was also shooting in the area.
Baraka claimed that either Afod or Afolabi attempted to speak with Filani, but she responded with insults. The disrespectful reaction did not sit well with Baraka and his colleagues, who felt her attitude toward her industry seniors was unacceptable.
A Heated Confrontation on Set
The situation escalated later that night when Filani’s production crew arrived at Baraka’s filming location to shoot a shrine scene. Upon seeing her, Baraka immediately decided to address her behavior. He noted that other industry figures, including veteran actor Mr. Latin, tried to calm him down, knowing he had a low tolerance for disrespect.
Determined to take a stand, Baraka and his team insisted that the crew would not be allowed to shoot their scene unless Filani was removed from the set. At the time, actress Fathia Balogun was present as Filani’s industry godmother and mentor.
Recalling his exact words to Filani, Baraka said:
“I told Mosun that if you think you can be rude because you have one aunty that is backing you here, I want you to know that we are not afraid of her [Fathia] but are just respecting her because of her age.”
Baraka admitted that his outburst prompted fellow actor Lala to step in and plead on Filani’s behalf, though he had already made his stance clear and directed a verbal jab at Fathia Balogun in the heat of the moment.
As of the time of this report, neither Mosun Filani nor Fathia Balogun has publicly responded to Baraka’s remarks.
