Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has confirmed that her family residence in Kogi State was attacked by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025.
As previously reported by Naijalog, assailants armed with guns and machetes stormed the home around 1:00 a.m., damaging parts of the building, including shattering several windows. According to intelligence sources, the Senator’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja, was the first to notify authorities of the incident.
In an exclusive statement to Naija News, the Senator’s Chief Press Secretary, Arogbonlo Israel, condemned the violent act:
“We strongly denounce the violent invasion of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s ancestral home in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, on Tuesday, April 15. Armed men mistakenly believed the Senator was present and went on to vandalize her grandfather’s residence. Thankfully, security personnel acted swiftly and dispersed the attackers.”
Israel further suggested that the assault was a retaliation for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s outspoken criticism of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she had previously accused of sexual harassment.
He called on the Inspector General of Police to urgently reinstate the Senator’s security detail, which had been withdrawn.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also recounted the events, stating:
“Two days ago, my younger brother accompanied contractors to assess sites for upcoming constituency projects in my hometown, Ihima. The attackers wrongly assumed I was present and launched the assault that night. Thankfully, the civil defence corps and members of the community intervened quickly and repelled them. No injuries were reported, and a formal complaint has been filed with the police.”
The Senator’s team has urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting her efforts to stand for justice and accountability, despite the threats and intimidation.
