Swedish police have closed an investigation into allegations of r@pe and sexual assault involving Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, citing insufficient evidence, according to prosecutor Marina Chirakova.
The 25-year-old French star visited Stockholm from October 9 to 11 after not being selected for a Nations League match. Swedish authorities had announced on October 15 that they were investigating an incident at an upscale hotel on October 10. While Mbappé was not officially named, several Swedish media outlets, including Aftonbladet, Expressen, and SVT, identified him as the suspect.
Prosecutor Chirakova stated, “The evidence is not sufficient to proceed, and the investigation is therefore closed,” adding that the suspect had not been formally notified of any crime.
Mbappé previously expressed shock at his name being linked to the case, stating in an interview with French television show Clique:
“I haven’t received anything, no summons… I’m not involved.”
According to Aftonbladet, the alleged incident followed a dinner and nightclub outing involving Mbappé and his entourage. The complaint was reportedly filed on October 12 after the alleged victim sought medical attention. Expressen reported that police had seized women’s clothing, including underwear, a pair of black trousers, and a black top, as part of their investigation.
The decision to close the case brings an end to speculation surrounding Mbappé, who maintained his innocence throughout the process.
