Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo shared a lighthearted moment about his family following his team’s triumph over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday.
Speaking after the dramatic final at the Allianz Arena in Munich, the 40-year-old football legend revealed that his children, who are Spanish, often tease him at home about their national allegiance.
“My children are Spanish and they joke with me at home and to annoy me they say – ‘the trophy is for Spain’,” Ronaldo said, as quoted by Madrid Zone.
“Now they saw their Dad win against Spain, so they will show more respect (laughs),” he added.
Ronaldo found the back of the net during the intense match, which ended 2-2 after extra time. Portugal ultimately secured the victory with a 5-3 win in the penalty shoot-out, capitalizing on a missed spot-kick by Spain’s Alvaro Morata.
In addition, Ronaldo revealed that he had played the final while nursing an injury, underscoring his determination and commitment to his national team.
