Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he has not being able to grieve the death of his wife who lost her battle with cancer two years ago.
The 38-year-old defender lost his wife, Rebecca two years ago during his playing years with Queen Park Rangers and has had to raise their three kids alone since then.
Ferdinand who is currently into punditry, has now lifted the lid on the devastating experiences of his wife’s death and being a single-parents in a documentary titled ‘Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum And Dad’.
He revealed: ‘I don’t think I’ve grieved properly, I’ve not given myself that time to sit down and really flush everything out and go through it.
‘As footballers, we often talk about missing important games through injury as if it was the end of the world.
‘Believe me, it isn’t when compared to your wife and mother of your children dying of cancer at the age of 34.
The veteran had earlier told the Sun about how is wife chose to keep her battle with breast cancer private.
Ferdinand explained: ‘Rebecca was an incredibly brave woman and a very private person who didn’t want anything about her illness to appear in the media while she was fighting for her life,
‘Only a close-knit group of family and friends knew.’
