Rihanna and Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, have seen the shocking increase in domestic violence cases as a result of coronavirus lockdowns taking place all over the world, and they are doing something about it.

Domestic violence is evil on its own and locking people in their homes with abusers to fight this virus has only heightened it.

Naijalog saw how Rihanna and Jack have joined forces to do their part in helping protect those who feel even more unsafe in their homes than they would on the streets with this virus.

Rihanna and Jack announced that they have donated $4.2 million ( N1,541,400,000) towards the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles in the fight against domestic violence.

People are being turned away from domestic violence shelters daily and Rihanna and Jack were deeply touched by their plight. Since California declared a safer-at-home order last month, domestic violence shelters have been overflowing and funds running dry at a rapid pace.

The money that Rihanna and Jack have donated will be able to cover housing, meals, and counselling for 90 victims per week for 10 weeks, and an additional 90 victims per week for 10 weeks after that.

What Rihanna and Jack have done is heart-warming. While we are trying to fight this pandemic, we cannot forget all the other evils that are still very present, like domestic violence.

We’re joining forces with Twitter/Square CEO @Jack today by co-funding $4.2 million grant to the @MayorsFundLA to address the current crisis for domestic violence victims in Los Angeles as a result of the COVID-19 Safer at Home Order. #startsmall #CLF pic.twitter.com/JKoKb60N3n
