For almost past 24 hours, it has been raining, non-stop in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, with seven feared dead, mostly in OluyoleLocal Government area of the state.

Naijalog  gathered that the havoc was registered in Arapaja, Akala new extension, Lao hospital area, where reports of over flown bridges deceived some Okada and Keke Marwa operators, who fell into some of the roads, which had been cut off.

It was also reported that a man who attempted to cross the road fell into the gutter and was washed away.

All efforts to get the reaction of the local government chairman, Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye, proved abortive as none of the calls made to his mobile line sailed.

The State Police Command confirmed the death of four people, while the State Fire Service stated that it was yet to be informed of any casualty

Most residents at the affected areas, were seen relocating for fear that the rainfall would spread into the night.

Also, commercial activities in Benin City, Edo State capital, were on Mondaygrounded following torrential rains, which lasted over nine hours.

The rains, which started at about 6.am on, left most part of the city flooded.

Commercial areas such as Ring road, Forestry road, Third East Circular road junction, Uwa street and New Benin area, where most stores and retail businesses were forced to lock up.

While business owners count their losses, others, who also suffered losses occasioned by the flood that followed the heavy down pour, also lamented their situation.

One of the traders, who gave her name as Magdalene Ohis, said she had to lock up her stores because there was no point opening it since the rains prevented most people from coming out of their homes.

It was also gathered that Ugbiyokho area, parts of GRA, Ikpoba Hill, College road area, off Ekenwan road, parts of Textile Mill road and Aduwawa, were mostly affected by the flood as several houses and properties there were taken over by flood.

A resident at Ekenwan road, Francis Igbe, who spoke with Naijalog , said his house and properties were not spared.

He stated: “I was in the office when I received a phone call from my neighbour to come home quick as flood has entered my apartment.

“I had to take excuse from my boss and rushed home. What I saw was not what I bargained for at all.   I am really confused, I don’t know what to do”
