Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced his official entry into the popular social media platform, TikTok. The move, revealed on Wednesday, October 28, is a strategic step aimed at sharing authentic information, live updates, and exclusive content directly with Nigerians as the nation gears up for the 2027 general elections.
The former Kano State governor shared the news via his official X account, concluding his announcement with a hopeful declaration: “Nigeria will be OK.” This digital expansion coincides with a significant development for the NDC: the inauguration of its 2027 presidential campaign council, signaling a formal shift into active campaign mode for the joint ticket featuring presidential candidate Peter Obi and Kwankwaso.
A Strategic Digital Push for 2027
The decision to embrace TikTok underscores the NDC’s broader strategy to connect with a wider demographic, particularly younger Nigerian voters who are highly active on the platform. With the 2027 elections expected to be fiercely contested, major political parties are increasingly leveraging digital channels for outreach and mobilization.
Obi and Kwankwaso are set to challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The inauguration of their campaign council marks a clear indicator that the opposition party is transitioning from preparatory stages into direct mobilization efforts ahead of the crucial vote.
Building a Formidable Ticket
Senator Kwankwaso brings substantial political influence from Nigeria’s north-west, a region critical to national electoral outcomes. His experience as a former governor of Kano State and a senator adds significant weight to the ticket. Peter Obi, on the other hand, a former governor of Anambra State, has cultivated a strong following, particularly among Nigeria’s youth, since his presidential bid in 2023.
The NDC appears to be gaining momentum. Legit.ng earlier reported a wave of defections to the party on Saturday, October 11, 2026, including a former APC leader from Kumbotso LGA. Senator Kwankwaso personally hosted the defecting official at his Kano residence, an event whose video was shared on X by his media aide, further signaling growing support for the NDC ahead of 2027.
