Several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have been without electricity for days, leaving residents and businesses in darkness.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the prolonged outage in multiple statements posted on its official X handle between Thursday and Friday. According to the utility company, the blackout is the result of a technical fault affecting the power feeders supplying the affected areas.

In one of its updates on Friday, AEDC stated, “We regret to inform you that the ongoing power outage is due to a technical fault affecting the feeders serving these locations.”

Among the affected areas are Jabi District, Lifecamp, Kado District, Aire Gas, Total Marble, and others along Kaduna Road. Additional communities experiencing outages include Idu, Citec Mbora, Karmo, EFAB Global Estate, Woodfield Estate, Zulu Community, and their surrounding areas.

Other impacted locations include Sokale Garden, Dutse Makaranta, Dutse Bokuma, Ushafa, Pegi, Gigo, Defence College Estate, Kogo, Zuma, Veritas University, JAMB Headquarters, the Law School, Bwari, and nearby neighborhoods.

Specifically addressing Bwari and surrounding communities, AEDC explained that the unstable power supply there is due to a technical issue on the 33kV Bwari Feeder. “The ongoing power outage is due to a technical fault on the 33kV Bwari Feeder, which is affecting supply to these areas. The TCN technical team is working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as possible,” the statement read.

Residents have expressed frustration over the blackout. Benjamin Aina from Ushafa said his community has been without electricity for a week, resulting in spoiled food.

Musa Abdullahi, a resident of Jabi, also voiced his concerns, saying he’s been forced to spend more on fuel to run his generator, which has significantly affected households and businesses in the area.
