On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu welcomed Wang Yi, China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and a key member of the Communist Party’s Political Bureau, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The visit is part of Wang Yi’s two-day working tour of Nigeria, focused on deepening the countries’ bilateral relations.
During the discussions, both sides revisited the Memorandum of Understanding signed at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in China. Areas of collaboration highlighted during the talks included the economy, politics, and the oil and gas industries.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, along with Wang Yi, will later hold a joint press briefing.
Key figures at the meeting included Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff; Minister of Information Idris Mohammed; and Ambassador Tuggar.
Ambassador Tuggar underscored the strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and China, built on mutual respect. He further emphasized that Wang Yi’s visit aimed at strengthening these ties and focused on discussions around trade, capacity-building, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.
