President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Monday for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama on January 7.
John Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024. He will succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo, who served from 2017 to 2025, according to a statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
“President Tinubu’s visit to Accra comes at the invitation of President-elect Mahama, who had earlier met with the Nigerian leader in December. The two leaders share a longstanding personal relationship, reflecting the deep bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana,” the statement noted.
As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration ceremony.
Accompanying the Nigerian president will be Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, along with other senior government officials.
