Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has weighed in on U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to launch a military invasion in Nigeria if attacks on Christians continue.
Speaking during a TikTok live session with a Nigerian-born American soldier, Portable told U.S. forces not to underestimate Nigeria, insisting such an invasion would end badly for them.
According to him, “If US soldiers invade Nigeria, they won’t go back home. You see all those Boko Haram people you’re hearing about? They are people’s fathers, brothers, and husbands. Most of them joined because of hunger,” he said.
Portable says insurgency has powerful backers
The singer further claimed that insurgent groups operating in Nigeria have “sponsors among the elites” within and outside the country, adding that terrorism in Nigeria is more complicated than many believe.
His comments quickly circulated online, triggering widespread social media reactions filled with jokes and criticism.
One user, Ladi, wrote, “I just believe say wetin people Dey talk say Portable never finish him drug for Yabaleft na true.”
Another added, “He got me rolling when he said, ‘let’s talk like educated person.’”
Others mocked his take, with one saying: “Portable no just get sense, and this one sef come serious with am wahala.”
Another user asked, “The victims no be people fathers, husbands and children ahbi?”
Context of Trump’s threat
Portable’s statement comes as global attention focuses on Nigeria’s insecurity, following Trump’s earlier warning to President Bola Tinubu that the United States would go “guns blazing” to stop what he called the killing and persecution of Christians.
