The police in Abia have arrested a gang of drug dealers after a raid on a cemetery near the Good-Morning Market area.

The cemetery, which was said to have been converted into a dispensary for the illicit drugs, was invaded by the police after a tip-off.

The development was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police for the state, Adamu Ibrahim in a statement.

He said:

“During the raid, seven suspects were arrested with some quantity of weeds suspected to be cannabis.”

The police commissioner said investigations revealed that some hoodlums usually converged on the graveyard to do “business.”

He said, “They sell and smoke cocaine and cannabis. Later they would go into the city to indulge in violent crimes, including robbery and kidnapping.”

He said efforts were on to get the sponsors and accomplices of the suspects, warning that no criminal would be allowed to use any part of the state as a breeding ground.

The command also appealed to members of the public not to relent in volunteering useful information that could help police track down criminal elements in the state, assuring that the identity of such informers would be treated with confidence.
